The Challenge
How do you create intrigue and excitement for a product already considered the pinnacle of luxury?
We were honoured to take this challenge head on for Cohiba’s ultra-exclusive Spectre offering – a limited-edition blend of 10 exceptional cigars presented in a bespoke, multi-faceted and interactive display case.
With only 600 units produced globally, each edition of Spectre must exceed the expectations of the most discerning cigar aficionados – individuals for whom luxury is a daily experience.

Our brief was clear: With four consecutive Halfwheel Packaging Awards already under its belt, we were to create Spectre’s fifth award-winning packaging design building on the minimalist, modernist and bold aesthetic of years past while providing a brand-new experience.
Our solution
We amplified Spectre’s identity by intersecting its techy and futuristic equity, with warm textures and materials that evoke icons of heritage and refinement, like classic cars or cinematic legends.

Concept-to-Commerce™ (C2C) Methodology
At Levity, every project is driven by our Concept-to-Commerce™ (C2C) methodology – a process that balances creativity with commercial viability from day one.
For Cohiba Spectre this approach was key, as a former agency’s design required an expensive rework in manufacturing. With Levity, the magic on screen is reality in hand.
We presented a broad range of structural design concepts via digital sketches, and in collaboration with the client, narrowed it down to the final favorite. The winner was a distinctive “corset” opening mechanism, already validated for production feasibility by our trusted industrial engineer.
Then it was time to marry mechanics with materials, finishes, and branding. We were inspired by classic car interiors, combining wood and metal to deliver a refined sensory experience. A subtle yet impactful refresh to Spectre’s logo also enhanced its sleekness and intrigue.
In total, the experience comprises six meticulously crafted components, all working together to create a layered, immersive and unforgettable unboxing ritual:
- Sculpted wooden case
- Precision-crafted metal cigar tubes
- Three-cigar travel humidor
- Embossed and varnished cigar band and sleeve
- Engraved metal card of authenticity
- Outer merchandising box with clever lettering
The Outcome
A thoughtful evolution of Cohiba Spectre’s annual luxury packaging experience, and hopefully, its fifth Halfwheel Award (2025 awards will be granted in early 2026).
Services Utilized:
- Packaging Industrial Design
- Production Feasibility
- Visual Identity
- Packaging Graphic Design
